Public School x GOOD Magazine

I'm excited to say that Public School was awarded an opportunity by Society6 to create a cover for GOOD Magazine's "Neighborhood" Issue! Members Cody Haltom, Casey Dunn, Jay B Sauceda, and myself worked together to come up with this shot. Cody and I worked together on the concept with loads of additional styling by Casey. Jay B and Casey worked together to produce the photograph.

Here's a look at close up of the cover shot. That's my hand holding the street sign! It was quite the undertaking and was definitely a challenging experience filled with good vibes.

This is the original image. The sun with shades was retouched so there was room for the subhead. Keep your eyes peeled for a making of compilation by Jay B!

Color Blast From The Past

A new piece for an Austin exhibition on December 5, 2009 at the Maranda Pleasant Gallery. This year's 12x12 Exhibition procedes will go to the Explore Austin charity.

"Through mentoring and outdoor adventure, the program’s mission is to create opportunities for inner-city boys to develop the skills, tools, and habits they need in order to become effective leaders in their own communities."

My piece that I've contributed to the show was created on Arches Watercolor Paper that was then cut, folded, glued and stapled to a 12x12 panel.

I used watercolor, prismacolor marker, colored pencil, charcoal, and graphite pencil to create this retina blasting abstract pattern.

You can read more about the show's history, here.

For updates on the show check out Maranda's blog.

AC + Pooneh Ghana + Dent Tee

Last friday I was able to catch Animal Collective live (for my fourth time!) at Stubb's here in Austin. AC has got the vibes toadally collected for this tour. The visuals, energy, and sound are all spot on.

Besides experience an outstanding concert, I was able to finally meet flickr contact, Pooneh Ghana, who took these amazing photos! Pooneh photographs for the Austinist and also contributes to Gorilla vs Bear.

Thanks to her, she captured Panda Bear wearing the Dent May shirt I designed!!!!

Totally took this experience to the next level.

Ahhhhhh, I melted.

A look into my "Studio"

Currently I'm setup in the spare bedroom of our condo. In the nearing future I hope to score a sweet shared studio space, but this is my little nook until that works out!

Letterpress Drawer

My wife loves looking at Design*Sponge and she recently got inspired from the Greenwich Letterpress (you can see the rest of that post here):

She remembered that her parents have an old letterpress drawer (gothic cond.) and they gladly pulled it out of the attic for us.

Now we are on the hunt collecting type to display in our sweet drawer. So far we've looked at Uncommon Objects, Austin's Antique Mall, but have yet to search online. (maybe just google it or something, or ebay or even jerry's typorama)

We are going to re-arrange this wall of prints and make it the centerpiece. Any advice?

Jeremyville "Sessions"

On my last trip to the fantastic Domy Books I picked up a book i've been eyeing for a looong time and it's a very inspiring one called Jeremyville Sessions.

Jeremyville is an amazing world to view and this book really showcases his vast body of work.

It's jam packed with his amazing illustrations, designs, exhibitions and really highlights his collaborations (Geoff McFetridge, Miss Van, Devilrobots, Lego, Converse, & MTV).

If you purchase it online it comes with small signed original drawing!

It even includes a DVD, stickers, and a poster!
